It happens to everyone, you get too busy to clean your bathroom for about a week or so and surprise, little black specks or growths begin appearing in your bathroom. Mildew and mold form in the sink and shower areas in the bathroom. It’s not a pleasure to look at, but most importantly it’s not safe and can cause health problems for you and your family. Follow the tips below to fight against mold in your bathroom.
- Check for Leaks – Constant water dripping in your bathroom sink or shower can cause mildew and rust. In addition, it can have a negative impact on your water bill. Turn your faucets off tight and check for dripping and leaks around the faucet area. These leaks must be repaired immediately.
- Create a Dry Environment – The bathroom is the last room in the house that anyone would consider dry, but it needs to be if you want to prevent mold and mildew. If you have a window in your bathroom, open it while you are showering. It helps remove the steam and prevent moisture. If you don’t have a window you can install a ventilator fan. Turn the ventilator fan on while you shower to help remove steam quickly.
- Eliminate Mildew – Sometimes mildew will still appear even though you have taken all necessary precautions. As soon as you notice mildew or mold in your bathroom, clean it immediately. Mold grows at a rapid pace and becomes difficult to remove. Eliminate it as soon as it appears to avoid further problems. Use your favorite bathroom cleaner or create your own bleach and water mixture to remove mold and mildew from your bathroom. Sometimes a good scrub with a cleaning brush will help remove all traces of the mildew.
If your bathroom already has mildew buildup it is essential to remove it quickly. Allowing the mildew to continue to grow even if just for a few more days can cause you and your family to experience allergies that can lead to respiratory issues. Conduct an inspection and search around the sink, tub, faucets and behind the toilet for leaks and mold.
Keep in mind that bathroom décor such as wallpaper and wood can grow mold easily in small crevices. Search carefully and clean the area. You may want to consider removing wallpaper in your bathroom and use paint to decorate your bathroom instead. Prevent and remove mildew buildup today to begin fighting against mold in your bathroom.
